RECITAL HANDBOOK 2026
1 / GENERAL RECITAL INFORMATION
Hi dance families,
We are so excited to be producing Mountain Movement’s 10th annual year end recital!
The opportunity to perform in a recital can be so rewarding and empowering. We want our dancers to feel prepared and confident. Please help by prioritizing attendance of classes from now until recital. Recital time can bubble up a lot of big feelings. We encourage parents to talk to their children about recital often so that they know what to expect. This can help ease those nerves and better prepare your child. Not to worry, our teachers, assistants and veteran dance parents will be there to support your dancers every step of the way!!
Don’t hesitate to reach out with any questions or concerns, our team is always happy to help. No question is too big or too small!
Much appreciation, Hayley Edmondson Owner/Director
RECITAL DATES, TIMES AND LOCATION
Dress Rehearsal – Mountain Movement Studio
Tuesday May 19th 4:30pm-5:30pm
Dress rehearsal at the studio gives dancers a chance to practice doing their routines in front of an audience and practice their costume changes. This is also the time to test run the hair and make-up before the big day.
Recital- MY Arts Centre Whistler
Friday, May 22nd Cast “A” @ 5:30pm ( Dancers arrive at 5:00pm )
On the day of Recital- you will bring your child to the MY Arts Centre with hair and makeup done and their costumes on. Dancers need to arrive at the theatre 30 minutes before the show begins to prepare. You will check in your child and confirm their pick up person at the check in table. We will have everyone’s phone number on hand in case of any emergencies. Only assistants, teachers and registered volunteers are allowed backstage.
At the end of the show, the person you confirmed to pick up your child during check in will check out your child at the checkpoint table. From there, you can go into the green room to collect your child and any belongings they brought with them.
This will be followed by Cast “B” @ 7pm ( Dancers arrive at 6:30pm )
Extravaganza Recital - Pemberton Senior Secondary
May 27th @ 6pm ( Dancers arrive at 5:30pm )
Dancers can arrive to the main front doors of PSS. This show will follow a very similar sign in/out process to the theatre show except that after the show parents can remain in the gym and the dancers will come out to meet them. As your family is exiting you will sign out your dancer. At this show dancers will be allowed to watch the show from a special section in the audience between their own performances!
TICKETS
Tickets will go on sale April 20th at 9am via Eventbrite. Up until the day of the recital you are welcome to return your ticket on Eventbrite and the ticket will become available for someone else to purchase.
The MY theatre in Whistler seats 200 people. “Cast A” has approximately 70 dancers. That’s about 3 tickets per dancer please be mindful when purchasing tickets. I will be monitoring sales closely the first day and will check in with families that have not made a purchase. The theatre show is for immediate caregivers and any elderly family members that would be more comfortable in theatre seats as opposed to the bleachers in the gym.
Please ensure you are buying tickets for the correct cast as there is two shows on May 22nd. See castings below.
The Pemberton Senior Secondary extravaganza will have 400 seats available and I encourage family, friends, teachers and neighbors to attend.
CASTING
Because we have 108 dancers this season we knew we had to split the cast to meet building capacities at the theatre. As much as we wanted to give a well rounded show with a mix of all ages and abilities it just isn’t possible at the theatre which is why we are doing the second show at the highschool.
May 22nd Cast “A” - All general program dancers.
May 22nd Cast “B” - All mini, junior, intermediate, teen and senior competitive teams
May 27th – EVERYONE!
VOLUNTEERS
It will take many volunteers to turn the PSS gym into a theatre on May 27th. If you are available to help set up before the show please email mountainmovement@outlook.com so I can make a game plan and get organized.
At the theatre we are so fortunate to have our alumni return each year to help us with recital. This means that parents can sit back and enjoy the show!
COSTUMES
APRIL 13th-16th is costume week!!
Costumes are a huge part of our performance production and a magical touch to make your child feel oh so special!
*Each class will receive a separate email outlining what their costume entails along with accessories and specific hair styles. *
It is your responsibility to ensure costumes are kept in a contained, dry location in your home, making sure they stay clean, wrinkle free and don't get moisture damage. After the recitals the costumes are yours to keep and do with as you wish!
MAKEUP
Makeup is applied to help your child’s face stay visible on stage with the big bright lights shining down on them. Without makeup, dancer’s faces can become washed out. However, make up is not necessary to perform. We support every family’s comfort level and will not force any child to wear makeup for our Rehearsals and Recitals. Please do what you feel is best for your child in regards to wearing makeup on stage.
Please reinforce that makeup is NOT to make them look pretty, because they are already beautiful inside and out! Stage makeup is applied so the audience can see their face with the bright stage lights. We want all of our dancers to look natural, but visible.
If your child would like to wear make up, we recommend to have a few trial runs leading up to Rehearsal to ensure everything goes off without any hiccups.
MAKEUP 5-6 yrs old
· Beige eye shadow which is 1-2 shades darker than natural skin tone
· Black mascara
· Pink blush which is 1-2 shades darker than natural skin tone
· Red lipstick
MAKEUP ages 7 yrs and older
Foundation which is 1 shade darker than natural skin tone
Beige eye shadow which is 1-2 shades darker than natural skin tone
Brown or black eye liner
Black mascara
Pink blush which is 1-2 shades darker than natural skin tone
Red lipstick: please no pink, purple, blue, etc...
Please no fake eye lashes
**We noted 1-2 shades darker than your child’s skin tone because when the bright lights hit them, it will wash their face out. Having make up that is a shade or two darker than their skin tone will help their faces stay neutral, instead of being washed out while on stage.
HAIR
Hair should be pulled off the face tightly and securely. No fly aways! How do we ensure no fly aways? Use a small amount of hair gel with a brush to smooth over hair before putting it up.
*Each class will be given specific hair instructions in their costume email. *
HAIR & MAKEUP BOYS all ages
We totally get that your little man may be uneasy about hair and makeup products. Or they might be really excited about it!! We want to support their comfort level while still shining bright on stage. If our little man feels anxious about applying makeup, please don’t stress, they can come makeup free if that makes their experience extra enjoyable!
WHAT TO PACK
We recommend to pack at least two days before recital. Then double check a day before rehearsal/recital that everything you need is in your bag. This will avoid any last minute emergencies on the day of rehearsal and recitals.
